For your weekend…

“We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched.  Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential.”  ~Ellen Goodman

I love this!  I love the idea of evaluating our own potential, but I want to take it even one step further.  Whether or not you choose to make (or keep!) New Year’s Resolutions, sometimes the process of thinking about all we need to improve blinds us to the things we’ve been gifted with, maintained or already mastered.  Your task for this weekend is to celebrate–even for just 2 minutes each day!–the things you already do well.

Are you

  • faithful
  • gifted in the arts
  • loving toward others
  • a dedicated worker
  • a devoted friend
  • helpful to those in need
  • kindhearted

Do youPotential

  • make great cofffee
  • decorate with flair
  • use money wisely
  • bless those around you
  • have a great smile
  • encourage others

Can you

  • wrap pretty presents
  • learn new things
  • make new friends
  • keep a secret
  • work with your hands
  • be positive
  • be useful

These are just a few things to get you started.  Your list of things you can do may be much longer and varied, but choose something that you can do well and take a moment or two to celebrate that this weekend!  Like the bulbs in the photo above, your potential isn’t even close to being maxed out, so take some time to celebrate that…and then tell God “thanks!” for making you such an incredible gift to the world!  (That isn’t arrogance–it’s acknowledgement to God for doing such a great job!!) (smile!)

See you back here on Monday!

Grace & Peace!

  1. Great advice Becky! All too often we tend to beat ourselves up over our flaws and ignore the gifts we are blessed with. I’ve long believed that we should be faithful to and thankful for the talents/gifts we have. And we can put our trust in God, knowing that He will continue working on our flaws to change us into the beautiful creations He wants us to become. Thanks for the reminder to appreciate what we can do. Have a great and blessed weekend! – Amber
