Books: On the Shelf

Here’s a very short list of some of the books that have changed my life, my thinking, my mood or attitude–the ones that had an impact on me.  The complete listing is far too vast for this page…perhaps the subject of another blog?  Maybe not.  :~)  These are just some of the ones I’d want with me on a deserted island.  And yes, I’d need to build shelves.

  1. The Bible–not just because it’s expected, but because it’s contents have made the single largest impact in my life and it can do the same for you.
  2. A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by Phillip W. Keller–Originally a gift from a precious patient, this book made such a profound impact on me that I keep extra copies available in my ‘gift box.’   God used this book to prepare me for several of our more difficult adventures of faith.
  3. The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence–an encouragement to be aware of God moment by moment
  4. Experiencing God by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King
  5. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp–lessons in gratitude
  6. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING by Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, Max Lucado and David McCullough
  7. The Noticer by Andy Andrews
  8. Quaker Summer by Lisa Samson–excellent fiction and another great lesson in perspective
  9. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
  10. Southern Living Garden Book/Landscape Book
  11. And more to come…

Your words are a gift. Treat them and your fellow readers gently, please.
